Power Machines: Own gas turbine to cost Russia 15 bln rbl

MOSCOW, Dec 21 (PRIME) -- Creation of Russia’s own 65- 170-megawatt (MW) turbines will cost 15 billion rubles, power engineering company Power Machines CEO Timur Lipatov told PRIME in an interview published on Friday.

“We estimate the entire project of 65- and 170-MW equipment at 15 billion rubles. This amount includes research and development costs and tests of the technologies, the development and re-equipment of bureaus and technological services, and the modernization of the experimental, scientific and production base,” Lipatov said.

Russian companies do not produce high-capacity gas turbines, the country buys them from Siemens which said in July 2017 that all the four turbines meant to be used on a Russian power plant on the Taman Peninsula were illegally shipped to Crimea, forcing the company to cancel its licensing agreements to sell power equipment to Russian firms and suspend then-current agreements with state-run companies.

Siemens continues to litigate with its Russian contractors, and the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry developed a roadmap for three years to launch gas turbines with 110–170 MW capacity.

According to Lipatov, Power Machines’ facilities will be ready to produce test turbines in two years.

He also said that Power Machines wants to build its own power utility with a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts (GW) to test the equipment.

The company has developed solutions to upgrade the turbines made on facilities of other companies, first of all, the Kharkov Turbine Plant.
